Erste BBKL-Triennale
Um die Jahrtausendwende reagierte Gertrud Kohli auf die Zerbrechlichkeit des Lebens und die Bedrohung unseres Lebensraums in einem rituellen Akt: Sie separierte die Farbpigmente in fünf Glaswürfel und arbeitete in der Folge nur mehr in schwarz-weiss. Trotz des radikalen Wandels in ihrer Ausdrucksform, ist ihr zentrales Thema über die Jahre dasselbe geblieben: Die Natur und ihre Wechselbeziehung mit dem Menschen. Ihre Bilder sind geprägt von einem ständigen Wechsel zwischen realer und abstrakter Darstellung: Erzählerisches wird abgelöst von Informellem, expressive Abstraktionen folgen auf konzentrische Ruhe. Gertrud Kohlis Werke sind lesbar als Beschreibungen eines unaufhaltsamen Prozesses der Entfremdung. Sie entwickelte ein eigenes Zeichen- und Koordinatensystem, in dem Motive, Spuren, Fragmente, selbst in reduziertester Form, auf die Bedeutung des Kleinsten, des Einfachen in Natur und Mensch hinweisen. Ihre Malereien, Projekte und Installationen der vergangen zehn Jahre zeugen von einer intensiven Auseinandersetzung mit dem kulturellen Gedächtnis und sind gleichzeitig ein Widerhall auf die Kunst – und Zeitgeschichte.
